Schlossbrauerei Stein

1489: Oldest reference document:
Name change to Steiner “tavern” on the castle grounds. Steiner beers were publicly available here for the first time.

15th-19th century:
Owners at that time were the noble family of the Törringer (several centuries) then Count Carl Fugger of Kirchberg and the barons of Lösch.

1845: Princess von Leuchtenberg,
Empress of Brazil, buys Stein. Under her and her nephew, the Romanoff prince and Tsar’s grandson Nicholas, Schloss Stein has the time of glitter & glamor celebrations and balls. Stein owes his current appearance in the English style to him.

1890: Castle and brewery becomes the property of Count Joseph to Arco Zinneberg. During this time the new brewery building also emerged, as it presents itself today.

1930: On 6 August 1930 the company was transformed into a limited company.

1934: The brewery is acquired by the Dr. Max and Ilse Wiskott and Otto Coninx.

1938: The brewery becomes a limited partnership and since then works as Schlossbrauerei Stein Wiskott GmbH & Co. KG.

The war years: There were also major setbacks for the castle brewery. Damage to production facilities and machines, etc., reduced the beer output to a minimum. That is why they brewed thin beer.

From 1949 onwards: The quality of beer is once again a priority in Bavaria. This allowed Schlossbrauerei Stein to revitalize the production of high-quality beers.

To date: More than 500 years of experience in traditional artisan brewing in harmony with the latest brewing technology have led to a wide variety of quality beers with the unmistakable characteristics of Schlossbrauerei Stein.
